About John Sevier
Dr. John Sevier joined the Department of Mathematical Sciences for the first time as a student in Fall 2003. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Appalachian State in Mathematics with a concentration in secondary education. After a few years of teaching high school in Catawba County, NC, and advising student-athletes at App State, he returned as a lecturer in Fall 2013. This was followed by his Master's in mathematics education and PhD in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in urban education and mathematics education.
Dr. Sevier's research interests are in problem-posing and problem-solving. He is currently investigating effective models of professional development for graduate teaching assistants (GTA) in mathematics instruction.
