About Jill Thomley

"We are in the era of big data, and big data needs statisticians to make sense of it. The democratization of data means that those who can analyze it well will win. Data is the sword of the twenty-first century, those who wield it well, the samurai." --- Eric Schmidt & Jonathan Rosenberg, How Google Works

In my career I have had the opportunity to consult with scholars in many disciplines and investigate wide variety of interesting research questions. The methods and technology for data exploration and analysis have evolved, and I along with them. Open source technologies and version control software like R and GitHub are an exciting revolution that allow for greater control, sharing, and transparency of scientific research and results, data analyses, and educational methodologies. I am interested not only in how to use these tools for my own work, but how to teach the next generation of students how to be quantitatively adept and flexible-thinking data samurai. Please see my  personal web page for more detailed information about my teaching, scholarship, service, and other interests.
