BOONE, N.C. — Dr. Joel Sanqui, professor in Appalachian State University's Department of Mathematical Sciences, was recently inducted into the Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering (PAASE).
Founded in 1980, PAASE is a non-profit organization composed of scientists and engineers of Philippine descent who have distinguished themselves in scholarly and research related activities. Dr. Sanqui was inducted into the academy during the Annual PAASE Meeting and Symposium held July 19-20, 2025, at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.
Sanqui earned his bachelor's degree in actuarial science from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, his master's degree in actuarial science from the University of the Philippines Diliman, and his doctorate in statistics from Bowling Green State University. He joined App State's Department of Mathematical Sciences in 2003 and was promoted to full professor in 2014. His research and teaching interests include actuarial science, data science, and probability and statistics.
