Congratulations to Pi Mu Epsilon Honor Society Inductees

Congratulations to Nicolas Peter Garzone, Aaron S Lubkemann, and Kate Metzger, who will be inducted into Appalachian's Chapter of the Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society this semester.

Founded at Syracuse University in 1914, Pi Mu Epsilon is a national honor society dedicated to promoting mathematics and recognizing students who have been successful in their pursuit of mathematical knowledge and understanding.  The North Carolina Eta Chapter of PME at Appalachian State University was founded in 1976.

The following criteria are used to determine a list of student candidates to invite:

  • Undergraduate students who are majoring in the mathematical sciences with an overall GPA of 3.5, who have completed at least 11 college mathematics courses at the calculus I level or higher; the minimum GPA for consideration is 3.8, with at least a B- in every such course. Course level and depth as well as time to graduation are also taken into consideration.
  • Graduate students who have had at least 27 credit hours of graduate mathematical sciences courses at Appalachian State University, and who have maintained a 4.00 GPA in those courses
