Colloquium Friday, April 9: Dr. Angelynn Álvarez, SUNY Potsdam

Join us on Friday at 3 PM via ZOOM to hear Dr. Angelynn Álvarez speak on:

Curvature: Studying Curves, Surfaces, and The Best Way to Eat Pizza

Abstract: In this talk, we will discuss the geometry of curves and surfaces using a geometric quantity called curvature, which is the amount by which a geometric object deviates from being straight or flat. We will then discuss some famous results, such as Gauss’ Theorema Egregium, and its applications in the real world. We will then generalize these notions of curvature to n-dimensional manifolds and share some results in the realm of positive curvature.

To join us, please email one of the colloquium coordinators (Dr. Morris -- morrisqa -- or Dr. Roland -- rolandke) for instructions on how to participate via zoom!
