Fourteen of our Mathematical Sciences majors/minors participated in ASA DataFest 2019 at Duke University this past Friday-Sunday. In a field of 94 teams composed of 400+ students from eight NC schools, one of our Appalachian teams (Sidney Anderson, Hannah Bush, Reilly Ehlinger, Sydney Singleton, Samantha Widman) earned an honorable mention. Another team (Gayle Centino, Ansen Gunawan, Audrey Holloman, Caity Johnson, Graham Tobin) advanced to the final round of judging. Our third team (Patrick Beekman, Tate Fleming, Hengming Li, Reid Motter) worked hard and gave a great presentation. The data has to remain a secret until early May, after all DataFest events around the country are done, but please congratulate our students for their hard work and successes.
