Colloquium October 5: Sherry Nikbakht, Appalachian State

Please join us on Friday, October 5, at 3 PM in 103A Walker Hall for the Department Colloquium.

Sharareh Nikbakht will present a talk on Promoting STEM Using Creative Activities

Integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) into the K-12 curriculum not only improves math and science literacy, but also enables students to become critical thinkers and future innovators. Using real-world problems while teaching Math subjects creates excitement among students and gets them engaged.

Development of creative and interesting K-12 STEM activities can be challenging and often teachers do not find the time, support, and resources needed to create such activities. I will present a set of STEM activities (ASU Math Walk) that have been created based on the landmarks, natural resources, buildings, and statues located on the Appalachian State University campus.
