Four student projects in topological data analysis
Abstract:
Topological data analysis (TDA) uncovers the "shape of data" using tools from algebraic topology. TDA has already been applied in a wide range of scientific fields, but the field is still wide open for new ideas and new target applications. In this talk, I will briefly report on four student projects in TDA that I've been a part of in the last year or so, involving both undergraduate and graduate students. These projects involve a range of data types including astronomical, climate science, election, epidemiological and demographic data. My collaborators for this work are Dr Alicia Aarnio, Sam Byers, Jocelyn Ilagor, Jakini Kauba, Aidan Lytle, Dr Neil Pritchard and Jana Turner.
